I think that we are having so many rights taken away it's disgusting. Now they want to tell us how to raise our own children ...they are going too far !

Stop worrying. I agree with you. What makes this country so great is people will fight to keep government out of our home. A lot of anti spanker's would vote this bill down, just because they don't want to be micro managed. I agree with spanking, we use it as a last resort, or for major rule breaking. I won't be living in a state which outlaws it. I don't think I'll be moving anytime soon.

Good Luck

I'll tell you a story about something that happened recently. My 6 y/o daughter had been misbehaving for 4 days straight and I had tried everything and was fed up. On the 4th day, I told her she was going to get a spanking if she didn't start listening which she didn't. I took her into another room and gave her a spanking. Next thing I know she's on the phone telling someone I beat her. Turns out she called 911 on me. An investigation by Child and Family Services took place because they had a complaint of excessive discipline but everything was cleared. I wasn't mad at my daughter for calling because for a 6 y/o she did what she thought was right. But yes, I agree that many of our options as parents are being taken away. What do you do when talking doesn't work, the "sticker system" doesn't work, bribes don't work? Are we supposed to let our kids walk all over us? Every child is different and responds to different kinds of punishment and the government should not tell us how to raise our children.

That's because there's a thin line between a spanking and a beating. A very thin line between discipline and abuse. Don't get me wrong, there are a whole bunch of kids out there who deserve spankings--but the government (and the schools the government watching for even the smallest bruise) will wind up having the kids taken away--and possibly locking up the parents.
Don't forget, too, that kids have a tendency to exaggerate--and downright lie.

Well--the concept of not spanking has become more popular because child abuse has become more recognized as a huge social problem--If spanking is used as a punishment--that is if parents calmly spank their children becasue they have misbehaved, well--then I can see that--the problem is--when most parents spank their kids they are usually pretty pissed off--and they spank their kids in anger--most people don't get carried away--but either way it is not sending the right message--it is telling your kids--hey--when I am angry--I will hit you (so they will learn this too)--and for the parents who cannot control their anger, well--some have seriusly injured or even killed their children..So it is better to say that we should try to raise our kids with love and not with violence--we are civilized and should try calm approaches first...humiliating children with spanking or causing them pain is not the best solution...

Hi, Look i think that you are right, BUT Spanking our kids is not right. My husband does it. Sometimes i do it but only when i have too. I tell him to sit on a chair for two mins and thing about what h has done. But anyway a few mins later he does not rember what he had done. he is at that age. Kids also play off each other. But there are law there we have to do what they say. but at the same time we have to raise them.

THANK GOD!!!!!!!! im sorry but i do believe that. there is a big difference between spanking and beating your child. and you should be able to raise your child as you see fit as long as there is no abuse. you better believe if my daughter got out of line i would spank her. viva la parientes!!!!

We wouldn't be the first country to make corporal punishment illegal.

Parents need to start treating their children like human beings, instead of robots, pets, and toys. Children are people too -- would you spank your husband if he made you angry? Of course not. Then why spank your child?

More people need to do it!!.....up to a certain age, that is.....kids are spoiled rotten and parents aren't able to punish them...........I hope there is really no such thing as reincarnation - I don't want to come back after this life...
