My kittens are 10 weeks old and i have had them for almost 2 weeks. The male is more cuddlier than the female. Usually, the male won't mind too much when picked up but sometimes struggles to get free (but usually when he's distracted by a toy). In fact, sometimes he seems to like it.
The female really dislikes being carried unless its HER decision... then she will tolerate it and purr... but usually for no more than 30 seconds. When she was at the pound, she wouldn't let anyone touch her or hold her. If i keep persistantly cuddle and pet and hold them (without forcing it) will they be more likely to get used to it as older cats? Is it normal for kittens to be less patient with being held? I really want them to become cuddle cats... is this just their personality or will eventually they like it more?

It is their personalities. Sometimes as they get older, they become a bit more lovable. They will have their more lovable times during the day too. Mine likes to be loved as soon as I come home, as soon as I come out of the shower, when HE thinks I should wake up in the middle of the night and pet him. He will walk up to my face purring at midnight or whenever, and plop by my face and start petting my lips or my eyes or sometimes sticks his paw in my ear.

Some cats are cuddle cats, some are not. Some just want the attention when they want it. My old roommate had 2 cats, one, the female, only wanted to be held when she felt like it. The male was more of a lap kitty.

I guess it really depends on the kitten's personality. But I took in 2 kittens when they were a few months old. They were the same way: didn't want you to hold them or carry them unless it was their idea. We have had them for a little over a year now and they are much more friendly! They will come and jump in my lap and want to sleep with me on the couch or in bed. They follow me around the house all the time! Just keep loving them and petting them!!

I have a cat with the same prob. A cat's age between 6 and 12 weeks are their most critical. Many things you do with them now will affect their later life in some ways. Usally though, females tend to be a bit more pushy before they are fixed. It may also just be the cat itself. Animals are just like people. My cat won't let me touch her, unless she's purring or wanting to play. She doesnt really follow me much at all, yet every night she's on my bed.
I hope I helped!Good luck with those furry friends!!!

You can sometimes reward your kittens with a kitty treat. Find something you know they really like, and make it a routine that when they allow you to handle them or sit with you on the couch (as an example) then they may feel more comfortable and realize you only want to show them affection in the future.

Good luck.

Cats at any age need to earn your trust. They need to know they can trust you and understand there surroundings. They are no longer in the pound so this is completely new to them, give them some time and let them get used to the new living arrangements and get adjusted and feel comfortable in there new home and then they will learn to trust and feel confident in you!

Kittens are always on the go. They usually outgrow this and become alot more cuddly but not all cats like to be carried.

Mabye your cat just doesn't like being picked up and held. We have a cat who is about 3 or 4 and she hates it. She loves attention but she just doesn't like being picked up. I think its just part of their personality

Think about it-- at the pound, they spend the majority of their time in a sterile stainless steel box. They really aren't used to contact and they need to develop more trust with you. Don't force them if they don't want it, that will lead to distrust.

she acts like the kind of cat that just doesn't want to be held, but it's not too late for him so keep working on it!
