And why does everyone who does bjj think that there the best and no other ma is any good?there's nothing wrong with bjj but it is not a good self defense style.it's good to know if you go to the ground, but that should be avoided at all costs.and don't say most fights go to the ground that is bjj propoaganda.most unskilled, untrained fights go to the ground.it's ok to think your styles the best(not really)but why do bjj ppl advice women to take it?dont you think the ground is the wrong place to be if someone is trying to rape you?it's common sense what i'm saying why is it so difficult to understand.and yes i have done bjj.this isn't about knocking it.

As a bouncer I see and are in a few altercations a week, and I havent seen many fights go to ground and start rolling. on a BJJ vs a BJJ would do that. you people talk about facts of the street pointing to ground fighting, well I say crap to that.
the only fact I can vouch for is that 100% of knocked out guys end up on the ground. Learn BJJ for its skills, but as soon as you think you can roll with a guy and take him out, then his friend, then that guys friend, you are an idiot. for multiple fighters you need to be on your feet. not boot bait rolling on the ground.
I am not killing BJJ, or grappler's, but seriously you need to open your eyes to what happens. ever been out numbered? thought about grappling? doubt it. it becomes a knock out and kick fest. no BJJ unless you are alone with the guy, IF you know a good stand up game in the first place.
I have been offered a place at a private BJJ gym, and just might get some tips, but will never forget the importance of the brain to tell me when it is not time for it.
as for small people tapping out big people, that is because it is a controlled event. ever see a tap out on the street? no. no time for it. the big guy was a grappler too by chance? well what if he was a Muay Thai exponent and attacked that BJJ person, what about the stand up protection and offensive? what about the whatever works street scrap? dickh.eads who pick fights are seldom alone. the next person is the problem, so what are you doing while you are locking or choking the 1st guy? what about #2...
I endorse BJJ's merits, but like anything in life, you really need to test the hype for real people, and see through the marketing and anecdotal retelling by sycophantic admirers. yes BJJ is a great asset, but it is not a silver bullet.
an effective style/art/fighter is truly tested and successful in the real world against the unknown, not against itself!

Though BJJ isn't the be all and end all of self defense, it is certainly a solid self defense system.
Women in particular should consider just because of the fact you brought up - certain attackers will NEED to bring them to the ground. Right where jujitsu is at its most powerful.
Men always have an advantage over women in a fight, but on the ground position and leverage are more important than strength and weight and women can use that. I've seen 120 lb women tap out 200 pound guys, but I've NEVER seen a 120 lb woman beat a 200 pound guy in a kickboxing match. And if I'm fighting some 400 pound, 7 foot guy, the ground is going to be my first choice of where to fight him. (well, first choice about 100 yards out with a rifle, but if I have to hand to hand him)
I'm pretty good on the ground (several years of jujitsu) and a 5th degree black belt in kempo so I've got good general skills and a ton of sparring experience. I'm telling you, BJJ is a good self defense system and especially for women.
And as a former cop I can athoritively say that most fights ending up on the ground is not BJJ propaganda. It's a fact of the street.
Hope this helps.

Actually, i think you should check your facts one more time. Jujitsu is a self defence art, have you ever seen it for self defense probally not. It is especially good, most fights end up on the ground, your ignorance should be no excuse for you lack of preparedness for an actual attack. I hope one day you come to a sesible under standing that if you dont grapple you are dead.

Interesting question. What has been your experience with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? Have you been in a lot of fights with them and found it personally inneffective. How do you justify all the skilled black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu who have fought in the street and in the ring consistently bringing the fight to the ground against other black belts of various arts? Is your opinion based on fact or ignorance? I would really like to know.

Calm down;
You do not have to like it. But Bjj is about fighting. Most of us do not care about the art or the 50000000 million years of heritage blah blah blah.
Fighters are fighters, most of us train in all styles, I like to win and I like to go to the ground. Win or lose, if you roll with me or those like me you will be on the ground.
Learn it if you want to be able to defend against it.
