Low back VW seat frames, the ones used up to '68 are really hard to get cheap. I just rebuilt my '67 Beetle and drove 100 miles to get a driver seat frame. What year and model to you have? Here's what I know about the 66-67 era seat...

Early 67's (like mine) used a low back seat with release lever at the bottom of the seat back. later 67's used a lowback seat that had the release lever located half-way up the side of the seat back (similar to the 68-72 Beetles). When I went to buy my front lowback seats. I bought a pair that had the release lever located at the bottom and not halfway up, but I remember the guy at the salvage telling me, that if I needed a lowback with the seat release lever half-way up, he could just convert a '68 seat. He said that he could just take off the head-rest portion of the seat frame and it would be just like the latter '67 seats.

I say this in that, with a little more research, you might be able to convert a high back seat out of a more common year of VW (like a late 60's) and save a few bucks. I'm no vw expert though, so make sure you verify this with your local aircooled gurus. Make sure also too, that if you purchase seat frames from a salvage, look over them carefully as sometimes the seat backs can be twisted or tweaked a little from being bent back.

Another thing, 65-67 Vw Beetles have squared off seat backs while the pre65's have seat backs with corners that are more rounded.

Along with local salvages, you also might check out www.thesamba.com. They have a classifieds sections that you can sell and post wanted ads.

Good luck finding those low backs; I went to a lot of trouble to get mine, but in the end, I'm glad I did.

Well since you didn't say where YOU are that makes it a bit tougher.

First, try Craigslist .. you might find someone nearby who is selling (or giving ) them.

Second::: try eBay.. lots of VW parts on eBay.. the listing below is for one set for around $125.

Third: try your local auto dismantlers - call first since not many have old beetles... but who knows. I know of one place in yreka , california where the guy has a couple of sets.

that should find you at least one set.
