He just wants attention. My cat would sometimes sneak into my room and rattle the blinds to wake me up. He then went clawing at my covers. He was looking for my hand, all he wanted was to be scratched by his ears. Then he walked out and went to bed. Cats are strange.

My kitty pounces on my face at 4:30 in the morning. Then he will lie down by me and lick my face and my ears. I think that this is his way of saying "Mommy it's play time" If this becomes a major issue for you try putting the cat in the bathroom when you are sleeping.

That's a much nicer "wake up" than what my husband and I usually get. A claw, right to the face, if we're not up at the time of our cats' liking. I've had my lip and my cheek punctured. My husband has taken a claw right to the eye lid. Our cats don't play around when they want food.

Magz my cat comes into my room meowing very loudly before jumping up on my bed and does this several times and then jumps up and meows in my face until I am awake and i pet him and then he lays down for a few minutes and then he gets up and moves! I think he does it to annoy me! No I really think he is just checking to make sure everything is OK and I am still there and things are good. A safety check.

mine does. he usually wants food, but if i don't get up, he'll just go back to sleep. but every cat has a different personality. one cat would i swear only wake me up on days that i could sleep in. so really, it's about your cat. he just might want some loving. check his food bowl though.

Syvlie comes up and paws my face gently in the early morning as she wants to get under the covers with me for a while. Her whiskers tickle!

Somehow I think it is habit, or something they do for comfort. My cat started licking my chin when he was itty-bitty, he still does, usually when I am asleep or going to sleep. It doesn't even wake me anymore, which is terribly odd with the sandpaper tongue!

My cat wakes me up by jumping on my bed and meowing directly in my face! Haha, its so cute!! But sometimes a girl needs her beauty sleep, you know? I think they can just sense your sleeping habits and they know when you usually get up.

This makes me chuckle. Cats love to do this kind of stuff to us!

If he does this and then just goes back to sleep, then he may not have been trying to wake you up. He may have been wanting to snuggle, or wanting you to pet him to help him go back to sleep.

Cats are weird. :-)

Ya, mine do. I sleep at the top of a bunk bed and they climb my ladder to wake me up.
