You can start by calculating how many guests/friends you want to attend. Then consider the time of year and whether the ceremony will be indoors or outdoors. If indoors you may have to rent space, either for the ceremony or the reception or both. If outdoors, can usually find less-expensive space. Also, if you are adventurous, you can have a barbecue, steak-fry, veggie fry (if you're vegetarian) or whatever. If outside you may need a sound system but they're inexpensive. You can write your own ceremony, get friends to provide music, or use the same sound system for records/CDs. You can dress up, dress down or dress casual. You can have a theme, say something like "western style" with everyone wearing cowboy boots, etc. Be imaginative. Good luck.

I had a beautiful church wedding. It was very reasonable for a couple of reasons. First my neighbor who was a professional seamstress made my dress as my gift. I bought the material. Second, We had an evening candlelight ceremony at 7:00. We had cake, coffee, and punch (for the older set) and then a dance for our friends. We only supplied pop and beer. Mixed drinks were cash bar. This saved us from having to provide a dinner. I have seen other people use the same flowers from the church and use them at the reception. And the bride and bridesmaids can carry long stems with simple ribbons tied around them. Just decide what is the most important things are to you both and keep lots of lists and stick to a budget. It is not very romantic, but the alternative may be peanut butter and jelly for the first year. Yikes. Do not skimp on pictures, it's the only thing you have to show for all that $ after its over. Good Luck

Okay there are several options you can do: 1) elope then have a reception afterwards 2) have a wedding at someones house or garden, your dresses and the tuxes or suits can be borrowed or you can rent, have a talented relative or friend be the musician, put a camra in every table, honey moon, you can just stay a week in a place not to far where you can drive to yet you love, catering, you could make your own food, cake, get a cake with simple design, consider doing your own makeup, rings get them at walmart, why spend all that money for just a peice of jewelry, hope this helps!

My brother and sister-in-law got a stamping set and those fancy scrap booking edging scissors and printed the invites on high quality paper on their printer at home and then hand embossed and crimped them. They sure didn't look hand-made.

An outside wedding can help on costs. I am a big gardener and actually grew all her flowers and made all her corsages and buttonneires, centerpieces and floral swags, even topiary. It was a lot of work. I am not sure i recommend that. (I think though she would have paid, we estimated, about $5,500 for the floral stuff if she had gone to a florist...for ex. each of the four bridesmaids carried a bouquet of 4 dozen different types of black tulips.

If you have some talented friends who are willing to donate their time to your wedding efforts, you can have some great results.

She rented chairs and the groomsmen set them up.

Cash bar, except for the champagne to toast the bride.

She has a friend who is a vocal music teacher sing.

They really pulled out the stops and asked friends. However, you should be willing to reciprocate.

For my first wedding, I actually prepared all the food (main course--chichen and ham alfredo pasta) myself ahead in large serving containers that could be dropped in warmers and froze it ahead. The women of the church auxilliary heated everything and served it.

Have an outdoor wedding. If you have a nice yard, just do it in your backyard or someone else who has a nice, big, private yard. Otherwise, rent from a place you can have your wedding and your reception at.
Keep in mind food is exepensive. The less people you invite, the less costly it will be. Also, consider having just free beer and soda at the wedding and not a full open bar.

You can definitely do nice at a low cost. You just have to put time & research in to things. If you do things yourself you can save money and watch for sales.
Also, you could go for "understated elegance" sort of a less is more approach.
If you do a cake & champagne reception instead of a full meal it will save you bundles as well.

We had a beautiful arrangement in the park and reception at the house with thoughtful decorating and plenty of 'refreshments'. ......................The Sky opened up with a deluge, as soon as I said, "I Do", her family wouldn't talk to each other the whole time, my Mother refused to spike the punch. I wanted the first 'time' to be special; I asked her to keep the dress on and she said, " It'll get soiled". I have been happily divorced for 13 years, For God's Sake, don't do it man!
