lots of WRONG info folks! HCV is transmitted by direct blood-to-blood contact. Transmission routes include sharing drug paraphernalia for both injection and non-injection drugs (needles, cookers, tourniquets, straws, pipes, etc.). Needles used for tattooing, body piercing, and acupuncture may also spread HCV. Sharing personal items such as razors, toothbrushes, or nail files is a less likely but still possible transmission route.
HCV is NOT a true STD because HCV corpuscles found in semen, vaginal fluid and saliva are NOT transmittable-they are dead viral cells. You cannot, REPEAT NOT acquire HCV this way UNLESS there is blood involved (which would account for some very rough sexual enduendo's or if there are STD's already present that would leave open wounds!)
NOW-for the actual answer ....After exposure to the virus, the incubation period usually lasts 2-26 weeks. The initial phase of HCV disease is called acute infection. Acute HCV usually resolves after 2-12 weeks. However, up to 80-85% of people initially infected with HCV do not clear the virus from their bodies, and become chronically infected. ALT and AST levels sometimes appear normal in a liver panel lab test. This is not a reliable test, you HAVE to be tested for actual antibodies for HCV.
Last, but not least-folks, if you do not know the correct answer, DON'T ANSWER!

Contact with any body fluids from a carrier or infected person can give you Hep C
It is a reportable disease, that is if you have it you must advose dentists doctors or anyone else who may come in contact with your body fluids.
Incubation period varies but gerenrally between 4 and 20 weeks some people are just carriers and do not show the symptoms of Hep C
