My dad is a pack rat and had a policy of saving everything. When we went to a baseball game he insisted on keeping my ticket stub because I might lose it. Then my dad had the idea that I would follow my brother (who I couldn't stand) back to our seats.

Not surprisingly I got lost. It's kind of hard to see around people when you're 8. So I found a policeman who then fetched an usher thinking it would be a simple matter to return me to my seat. But I didn't have my ticket stub, so they took me down to the station.

The public address announcer had to request my parents to come to the station to pick me up. It's a good thing that they found my parents before the game ended. That would have been a mess. Twenty years later my dad lost the ticket stup.

Does anyone have a story of parent stupidity that tops this?

Not so much a single story, but a collection of memories on how messed up my partents were. When we were kids my family was poor, so for Christmas or birtdays we would get some pretty cool gifts like a Light Bright or the Shera Princess Castle, etc. The only downside was that my mom kept the boxes and tags that everything came with and after a few days she would box it back up and take it back to the store for a refund to get the money back. So we would play with our toys not knowing how long until they would "disappear". The saddest is when you got in bed with a cute stuffed toy and woke up and it was gone. Is that messed up or what?! I understand being poor but that's the wrong way to go about it if you ask me.

The dumbest thing my parents ever did was decide that they were going to teach me how to deal with nature and how to survive. They gave me a credit card for emergencies and left me out in the middle of a wooded area that I knew quite well. Well I walked to the local Holiday Inn and ran up that credit card so high that they learned never to expect me to sleep outside in the middle of the woods again!!
