My natural hair color is dirty blonde. I've been dyeing it a light shade of ash blonde (like paris hilton or jessica simpson) for a couple of years. everytime i dye it a cool ash blonde, i have red tones in it. no matter what brand, no matter if i go to a salon or not. it ALWAYS has red tones and ends up more of a strawberry golden blonde. today i bought a box of color that looked platinum blonde, just to see if it would work, but no, my hair was strawberry blonde from root to tip. is there a way i can correct this without bleach? another shade i haven't been trying? help a girl out.

thanks guys

I know if you even have a slight hint of red in your hair you will get the effect of the strawberry blonde. Usually the ash blonde will cure that, but wow, something's not right. I have the same problem, because I have natural auburn in my hair and I can go blonde but it takes some work. My stylist had to put a cooler blonde in my hair which gave it a greenish cast but didn't last long. It's a process. Sometimes you might have to go to a more expensive stylist and work one on one with each other so they take time to listen you what you want and that way you will get the look you want as well. Good luck!

you need to go to a salon and get a "double process" color. that's when they bleach all the color out, then they can tone it to a nice pale blonde color. that's what I get done to my hair, my hair pulls red and gold real bad....sometimes I need to get it toned in between because my well water makes it look gold too. Just make sure to go to a professional-tell them you want no warmth whatsoever and you want it bleached first!!!! most will try to avoid it and just tone what you already have or something-the easy way out. bleaching is a little drying too so that's why most are hesitant...but all the more reason to let them do it and DON'T do it yourself : )

well, it sounds like you are just about stuck with a little red. Some people just have red undertones that show up when lightening thier hair. I am a licensed sylist, but not currently working. I was able to get color that was "aa" which was double ash, to correct red tones. But I dont know if you can buy that at a drug store.
Sorry.

Truthfully, you probably have a large presence of iron in your hair... this turns your hair red when you dye it... I have this problem all the time and there is nothing I can really do about it... my hair is dark brown and no matter what color I dye it (even black), it turns into a reddish color... it's because I have a high presence of iron in my hair... from what I know, you can't do anything about it...sorry... but you know what... people say that people who have a large presence of iron in their hair are really intelligent
