For my 1 year old it was a similar type of party, mostly adults (friends and relatives), and one other little boy his age. We didn't really do a theme, just had balloons and streamers, a cake and some good eats. I totally don't think a theme is necessary for a birthday party, especially for one so young who's not going to remember it. He really probably does not care if there's an Elmo or a truck or a cow on his cake.

My friend did a Sesame Street themed birthday party for her 1 year old and he was really freaked out and terrified of everything, actually!

Truthfully will your son remember it. Since it is mostly adults, fix up a goody bag for each of the kids. Make a cake like an Elmo, Blues Clues etc. Than get solid color plates that match the color of the character chosen. That baby will not remember any special decorations, so don't waste money on it. Make sure you have a individual cake for the baby to play in. Many bakeries give a complimentary first year cake for baby when ordering the big cake. Have fun.

Could u elaborate on what sort of things that grab his attention,
how many people, his likes, etc? Cause I was thinking along the line of Sesame Street, Barney, or just a party full of cartoon charactors on the hats, whistles, sparlelys on the cake. I think he'd get a chuckle out of that, as he's not knowing any of the Kid's Shows yet, right. I'm sure anything will do, just as he knows
it's His Day! Oh, chochoate cake makes for real Kodak thrills!
Happy 1st Birthday Baby!

We did Rubber Duckies. We had a big first b-day bash w/ more adults than kids and it was fun. The cake looked like a tub w/ duckies in it... we had a wading pool filled w/ water and LOTS of ducks (we sent one home w/ each guest)...we had duck shaped bowls on the table w/ snacks...

It was lots of fun!

You could really do a lot with this theme, and you really could spend as little or as much as you want. We did yellow napkins/plates to cut back on cost, but used decorated balloons.

Have fun! Take lots of pics! ENJOY!

Does he have a T.V. show he likes - Blues Clues, Bernie, or
Clifford the Big Red Dog - if so go with one of them.
If he likes cars Make it a race car theme - on his cake make a race track and put a few cars or Army men if he likes stuff like that , Just go with any thing he likes.
You could also just make a cake and put blocks on it spelling HAPPY BIRTHDAY and his name in blocks also.
At 1 he's not going to remember it but you will so have fun with it
Make sure you get lots of pitchers of him digging into his 1st cake!

i did a farm animal theme for my son's first birthday. i had plates, napkins, a tablecloth, a banner, and thats it. at one or even two, a big theme really isnt necessary. my sons room was decorated with a baby farm animal theme, so thats why i chose those plates and stuff.

if your son is into sesame street, there is plenty that out there. i recommend just going to the store and picking out a cute set of plates and such. then go for cheap old crepe paper, and lots of balloons. that's really all you need at one... and for the other kids that will be there, just let them take a balloon or two home.

have fun, and keep it simple!

We are doing Baby Einstein here in a few days. Its so darn cute!

WalMart is one of the few places that does a Baby Einstein themed cake.

You can order ballons, or party favors etc on Ebay.

Have fun and don't invite too many people :)

My son was big into trucks and such so i did a construction theme for his birthday. Just see what your son play's with or likes to watch on tv. if you go to birthdayexpress.com they have some good theme's and you can get everything.
