Maybe your Fry Daddy isn't getting hot enough, and your fries are soaking up the oil. I purchased a large deep fryer and have no problem with the french fries. I change my oil periodically and use either Canola or Vegetable oil.

Well you have to have really hot oil and they actually need to be cooked twice. I watched the food network show "unwrapped" once and they said it is near impossible to get the same tasting fries at home that the restaurants and fastfood have. The Ore Idas are meant for the oven I thought? Well in the restaurant they are cut in the factory, then "flashed fried" then frozen, then once they get to the restaurant they go from the freezer to the hot oil (I think they used peanut oil), like 475 or maybe 425? Look on foodtv.com

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Place 3 tablespoons (you don't need much oil) of vegetable or olive oil and 2 teaspoons of salt in bowl; dump in the fries and toss with hands to coat with oil and salt.
Place on baking sheet in an even layer (don't pile fries on top of each other) and bake for 15 minutes on one side. Turn over with spatula and bake another 12 to 15 minutes on other side, or until golden brown. Add more salt if needed.

Congrats on deciding to do Thanksgiving this year!! My sister does thanksgiving every year, but i can tell you what she does. First of all, she cooks her own turkey, usualy gets 20lbs turkey..while she does have her Father-in-law deep fry one. Also, there is a ham.. She also has everyone bring a dish or item that they want to bring(if you will do this, make a list to make sure that no one brings doubles),but i don't know if your family is up to that, but i know the people coming love to be able to help out...the usual dishes are mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, stuffing, creamed corn..we usually order rolls, then she has the little sides like olives and cranberries and cranberry sauce..oh and the gravy!!Also she usually has chips and dip for people to snack on while putting the finishing touches on things lol.. For dessert she usually goes online and finds cute little thanksgiving themed desserts, like she dips marshmellows in chocolate and makes little pilgrim hats out of them..the kids love it! Theres the usual pumpkin pie and a cake(its usually my aunts bday) and then other goodies others bring...No matter what, the best part is having your family together, some things will go wrong, thats bound to happen, don't fret over small things..especially if you'll be pregnant!! I wish you the best of luck!

You to use hot oil, the best thing to do is cut the potatoes and have them in water and when your are ready to make them dry them off very good. the starch in the potatoes is what absorbes the oit you want to soak them in water to romove the starch and just make sure the oil is hot and the poatoes is dried after the soak

Doesn't the bag have directions on them? The best way to cook fries is to place them oven and then sprinkle salt on them after they're done.

You gotta wait till the grease is boiling put one in and when it is almost done add a couple hand fulls but not too many or the grease/oil will cool down and they will not brown.

deep fry them check to see if your oil is ready , drop in one fry if you get lots of bubbles it should be close (380f) when you think they are brown enough, take them out put on paper towel and put them in microwave for 45-60 sec.this helps get rid of sum of the oil
