At my school, there was a hand sanatizer in front of the cafeteria lunch line. you were suppossed to sanitize your hands before eating. (I'm not sure what brand of sanitizer it was though)
Someone just told me that if you get Germ-X in your mouth, it could be fatal. Is that true?? He also said they tried to discontinue it! Someone please tell me if what he said is accurate or just a rumor.

Yes it is not only safe, but highly recommended, that you use hand sanitizer before eating--especially in a school! If you rub your hands together until they are dry, there is no risk of getting the sanitizer in your food. Even if you were to get a small amount in your mouth, you would probably be okay. Anyways, I'd rather ingest hand sanitizer than germs that are found in schools (like Hepatitis A, flu, cold, etc.)

It's alcohol based so a little bit is alright, it will evaporate, just don't pour several ounces on your food.
