preventitive maintance is the key and at 70,000 miles it is not a bad idea if that breaks then you will be SOL so do it now and get it out of the way! plus it will improve gas milage and other performance issues like smoother accel!

Most vehicle manufactures recommend changing the timing belt as a maintenance item. most are 60,000 miles but some call for 100,000 miles. To be on the safe side I would have it changed now. In some vehicles major engine damage can occur if the timing belt breaks.It would also be a good time to change the water pump also. the labor charge will not increase that much and if it should go bad you would have to pay the same labor charge again.

What does the manual say? It should indicate the proper interval.
Replacing it early won't hurt, though. Replace every part that resides under the timing belt cover and in that vicinity at the same time, to save work later on.

I would if you can afford to do it. Also have them replace the Timing belt tensioner at the same time. I have seen them fail and take out the timing belt.

From the belts I've seen, if its highway miles, you could go to 100,000 miles.

100000KM is the standard, even if not causing any problems, still cheaper than a rebuild

the timing belt only makes all the pistons simultaneous in action. you only need a new one if your cars performance is slacking.
