I am about to choose classes for my freshman year. How can I choose which language to do? Some of my friends are doing one, while the others are doing another so that wouldn't really influence me. I've heard that German is easier to learn because it's closer to English, but Spanish seems to be more usefull around here since you sometimes run into a Spanish speaking person. Is there any opinions out there that you'd like to share with me to help me choose?

Spanish is way easier. I've studied both. Ask yourself 'Which is most useful? Do I want a challenge? How likely am I to go to Germany?'

Do you ever travel (or intend to travel) to Spanish or German speaking countries?
Do you know any people who already speak either language?
Which do you want to learn more?
Also remember that, when you take a language, you usually also learn a little about the culture, so is there one language that you'd like to learn more about the culture (a little bit, anyway)?

I speak quite a bit of German, and no absolutely no Spanish. I think German is fairly easy to learn, but I have no idea about Spanish. Plus, less people around here know German, so you could insult people in German. (Just a litttle possible perk to learning German.)

So, in conclusion, I think you should take whichever language you end up wanting to learn more.

English: Good luck with whatever language you choose!
German: Gutes Glück mit, was Sprache du wählst!
Spanish: ¡Buena suerte con cualquier lengua eliges!

(I used google translate for the German and Spanish translations, so I'm sorry if they're not translated totally correctly.)

I would take Spanish. It is easier. English and Spanish are the most popular spoken languages spoken in the US. You have a better chance of using it over German out in the really world. Unless you plan on taking a trip to Europe in the near future.

There is no such thing as an easy language! Either language is hard in its own way. I'm prejudiced because I speak Spanish and I can tell you that I have enjoyed every minute of it. Taking what your friends take is not a bad idea because then you'll have people to practise conversing with. And you will need to converse if you want to learn. However you might meet new friends in the class. Good luck!

Spanish is better of the two because it's more useful here and after learning it, you will learn other languages really easily. Take spanish now and after 1 or 2 years, add another language to it and you will be happier for that decision.

Spanish is an easy language to learn. If you live in the United States, it can be an asset because there are a lot of Spanish-speaking people who live here. Depending upon where you live, if you speak Spanish fluently, you can actually get paid more money for the same job as someone in the same job who does not speak Spanish. The same goes for Russian. If you live in Eastern Washington, and are bi-lingual in Russian, then greater earning opportunities are in store for you (they have a lot of Russian immigrants and people who speak languages similar to Russian, in Eastern Washington). If you plan to travel, what language you choose to learn could be factored on where you plan to travel. Good luck with your decision and Vaya Con Dios!

If you want to get a good job in the U.S you should take Spanish class. A lot of Spanish speaking people are coming to the U.S, and almost any job needs a translater that knows how to speak Spanish well. If you want to get a good job, I suggest you get Spanish class.

Don't take a class based solely on how useful it is. I took Spanish one year, and realized I wasn't interested in Spanish culture as much as I was German. I did wonderfully in German. Ask yourself which language, country, and culture you prefer. I think both are major languages.

German, German and English are related so it might be easier than Spanish. Spanish, overrated.
