it's only been a week, and I'm using shampoo/conditioner for colour treated hair! I've been bleaching/colouring my hair for about 20 years, on and off,(mostly on). Does there come a time when the hair just refuses to accept colour any more?? My hair has been cut off to a very short style a few times, it's been long, now it's just above my shoulders.
My natural colour is medium ash brown, I've been doing the mixed blonde and brown highlights, but the brown fades almost immediately, so I'm left with all blonde....then of course the dark roots grow in...ugh!

You should wash your hair in cool water. Washing in hot or warm water opens up the hair follicle and allows the color to wash out. The reason the blond doesn't wash out is because it's probably bleach but the brown is most likely color.

It's not a big deal but you are probably using water that is too hot.
