I am in fourth grade and when somebody gives me a compliment or tries to start a conversation with me I don't say anything because I am shy. It's not that I don't want/like to talk and it's not that I don't know what to say (usually), but I don't know what the problem is or how to get over it. When my parents ask me why I do this I don't know what to say and it bothers them and me. I even do this to parents of friends I have known since preschool. HELP!

For one thing, I am not shy around friends. Just thier parents. BTW Dorothy and Toto, you are very rude. I don't know if this is Dorothy and Toto that said this but I do not live in a basement! And I will not be able to graduate for another 8 years!

it's just the way that you are, so don't be ashamed. try to step out of your comfort zone just a little bit. when you talk to people, don't concentrate too much on what they are going to think of you. if you do, you will definitely worry yourself too much, and you'll get nervous (trust me i know) be yourself, and try to talk to others, or participate more in class, and slowly work your way up from there.
good luck!

First of all, you're not alone. I am the same way, until I get to know someone very well, and I have been all my life.
One very helpful thing to do is imagine the other person is you. You're probably not obsessing over every little detail of what theother person says or does, and they probably aren't doing it to you. Just be nice and be yourself.
Another thing is that, even though it can be very hard, you sometimes have to just force yourself. It might sound awful but that's what I do and I am much less shy. After a while, you'll most likely get into the swing of the conversation and won;t have to force yourself anymore.
I hope that helps!

first of all, try to face the mirror and see yourself, do you think you're the type of person to be neglected or to remain an introvert forever?...of course not, every person is special... know yourself.. and dont be afraid to be yourself.. if you're shy, you can get over it by having a mindset that you are what you are and not what people expect you to be.. be proud of yourself and dont mind what the people will say to you..
you can be better in keeping the conversation alive if you'll increase your vocabulary.. if you'll read books and gain ideas from observation, and letting yourself speak out your own opinion.. being good in a conversation need not be duty or profession (sorry, i dont really know the right word to use).. i you just need to be yourself.. as to your parents, just tell them to help you overcome it.. tell them your problem.. it would be much better..
i know you can get over it.. just be yourself..

I was really shy when i was younger too. Untill 3rd grade, I really didn't talk to anyone from school, except family. As I got older, I became less shy. Good Luck

The same thing happened to me, and my friends then ditched me and the only friend i had left was a boy. All i did was whenever asked me something or told me something, i would do a motion, such as a shrug or a nod because i hated talking to people.

Your sentence structure/syntax is that of a smart, young ADULT! Quit jerking all these nice people around, finish high school, get a job and move out of your mother's basement.
Have a nice day.
