No offense, lesson 1 when you install a new Operating System. Backup, backup and backup.
However, you may be able to recover your info using a program such as R Studio Data Recovery.
Download the trial to see if it finds your info and if it does buy the appropriate version.

You broke a Cardinal rule of software and software upgrades. Never but never install new software for at least 6 months. I suspect Microsoft is already working on Service Pack #1 for Vista.

Its gone and i don't think it can be recovered, NEVER install a new release from Microsoft!!! your asking for trouble!!! do you have your xp disk? if so insert the disk and you will see a screen that has something like "welcome to windows xp setup" follow the steps you will see on your screen and you will need your original xp serial number (product key) to install however i dont think you can recover your lost data.
