Dear "B",
I see by your profile that you are new to Y!A. One of the things that you will soon find out is that any question that you ask in the Religion section often has a lot of responses, but not answers. In addition, many of the remarks will be direct attacks on you, (Like "Mulla Robertson") I guess you need to be pretty Thick-skinned to stay in this section for long. Having given a "welcome" of sorts, let me answer your question.
Our faith is the most precious gift that anyone could receive. It is also a gift for your friends, too. There are two items that you should be aware of :
a) there have been several studies that indicate that it takes about 30 positive contacts with christians, for a person that knows little or nothing about the Christian faith to become interested and then go to a church service. You are one link in the chain that God uses to bring people to Himself. The pressure is not yours its God's.
b)people are not interested in theology, but rather personal experence. They are not interested in how you became a Christian long ago, but rather something that happened to you in the last week. Keep it simple. Look for light things to say as openers. e.g. "Last Sunday, the guy that gave the children's story, gave Kazoos to each of the kids and taught them to play the song "Jesus Loves Me." It was a hoot! It had me singing to my self. All week I keep humming "Jesus Loves Me", so if I start humming you know what song I'm trying to sing." You have started to become a link.
Hope this helps
God bless
Enjoy your time at Y!A
Bryan

If you have to find an easy way to bring this subject up, that's a hint and a half for you NOT to bring it up.
This is what I don't understand about people who claim that they're this, that, or the other as far as religion is concerned. I mean, it is written, "Let your light so shine before men that they may SEE your good works and glorify..."
If indeed you are a Christian (even though you didn't say that you were which I am glad because the word Christian means "to live Christ-like" and if we are to believe that Christ [which was not Jesus' name, by-the-way]) lived this perfect, sin-free life, then NO ONE can be Christ-like), then your goodness will show and if your friends see this then they will come to you...

If you want to bring up a subject, bring it up. If they
don't wish to hear or speak of it, they will tell you so.
That's the easiest way to bring up any subject.
Their response could very well be, Who asked you?
and So what?
The term "Christianity" is not in the bible to begin with.
The term "Christian" is.
Unbiblical phrases have been employed in the churches
in the attempt to make the gospel something it never
can be: MORE modern, MORE of this, or that.
In spite of what pastors, preachers, and teachers may
tell you, the word "religion" shall never be divorced
or separated from God. The word "religion" is in the
bible, and most people know it.
We are told in the new testament to provide things honest.
Be up front with your friends if you speak of Jesus.
There is no end of subject matter in the bible.
Thus no lack of ways to speak of Jesus.
You'd be surprised to find out how close your friends
already are to him.
They might teach you what you don't know.

Let's rephrase this question to express what you trully mean.....
What is a subtle way I can try and convert my friends without pissing them off and making me look like a religious extremist who thinks I am better then them?
A: Kierkegaard....the greatest Christian philospher of the last 200 years.....wrote that nothing worth knowing can be taught. What he meant is that true faith develops from a personal connection with God. Your dogma does not qualify. How would you feel if one of your friends tried to bring up the subject of converting to islam? It's no different.

Why would you do this? Are you afraid that your friends here in the Western world haven't heard of Jesus and the gospel at least 300 times (on average) in their lifetime? Jesus' mandate was to the 12 apostles to go into the world and preach the gospel.
This isn't fire insurance sales here. These people don't need to be preached at... and you're not one of the 12 apostles.
Leave them alone and let them choose what they believe without your help.

If you are a Christian, just let your light shine. If you're not, just ask. I think we forget that everyone is looking for a way to live an effective life. If you think you have found it and your life reflects it, others will be drawn to your lovingkindness and want to know your secret...so tell it.

Wear a button that says "Ask me about Jesus".
Then, if they don't ask, don't tell them.
You won't waste your time that way.
You've really got to make a good investment of your time, ya know - there's only so many people you can browbeat....er...."witness to" in a lifetime, and you don't want to waste it on people who aren't going to buy into....er....understand the message.

By your life, that is your example. Allow Jesus to shine forth and it is my belief that many will approach you wanting to know what makes you so different. I often use the following quote:
"No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care." (Dan Cooper)
