At first I thought I was going crazy, then I did some research and found out that I might have Obsessive Compulsive disorder. I know theres no cure, but it can be calmed through medication. I don't really want to tell my parents about it since I have a somewhat bad relation with them (I'm 16). What should I do? Thanks.

Heres some of things that I do to make me think that I have OCD:
-Turning off and on the lights before I go to sleep
-This is kind of weird, I have to think of the right person before I turn off the lights.
-I don't think its germaphobia, it's more like if I think of a bad person than I have wash my hands, and constantly wash them until I think of the right person.
-If I feel something with one part of my body, then I have to feel it with the other part of the body, to make it kind of even.
-Images in my head that I don't want to see, but keep occurring.

Thats all I can think. Thanks for all the help.

Sounds like OCD to me. Talk to a counselor at school or the school nurse if you have one.
You may not even need any medication. It could help just having someone to talk to. And i completely understand about not being able to talk to your parents. Im sure talking to someone through the school can get you some good results.
Good luck!

There are two types of obsessive compulsive disorder. One is just that... Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The other is called Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY Disorder. The former is treatable, while the latter is expected not to ever really go away. I'm not sure which you may have, or if you even have it.

A mental health evaluation is probably in order for you. There are numerous ways to tackle these problems even if you have OCPD... the one that isn't expected to change.

Hey! Could you find your own way to the hospital (bus, friend, or maybe if you drive already...)? Because if you're 16, your parents don't have to know. You have confidentiality with your doctors, and I imagine you can work something out with them so your parents won't need to find out about meds, too.

And the drugs - well, they work differently for different people, but for me.... man! I held off taking them for years because the thought of having an official "mental illness" freaked me out, but I wish I hadn't! The best part was getting past the weird, obsessive thoughts - prozac helped so much there.

That all being said - it might help to tell your parents. I don't know the specifics of your case, but for me, a lot of tension between me and my mom came from my OCD. It was totally irrational things - like closing cupboard doors, that kind of thing, and she thought I was being over-critical about her and would get mad at me. So it helped (just a little) for her to know about OCD, and to know that I didn't mean to hurt her, that I just couldn't stop it.

Anyway, good luck to you - hope it all works out!

yeah it sounds like OCD from what I've heard about OCD. You should ask your parents to take you to a therapist to help you talk about these things. It's good that you're trying to get some help with this, ofcourse theres nothing wrong with it, it's just who you are. But I think if you talk this out with a professional they can help you get better.

Yes, you do almost the exact same things as me and I am also 16. You need to see a therapist. I wish I could see a therapist, but they're too expensive.

I have OCD and my dr. prescribed prozac - and it does work. Mine is mainly the images in my head that you describe. She said they are called "intrusive thoughts".

Dude, go get checked out!! Ordinarily, I would recommend marijuana, but with that "voices" thing, I'm not sure. "Voices" cannot be good. See a counselor
