He had a cold around two weeks ago and this tuesday he woke up with a big swollen know underneath his jawbone close to his chin, the doctor said he was gonna do some blood work and send him to a surgeon to find out what it is and if it is something to worry about. It is not sore nore tender to touch, he can breath fine and eat and drink fine, when he wakes up in the mornings it is swollen very large but throughout the day it shrinks very small about the size of a nickel...Does anyone have any idea what this is? ANd if its something to worry about. I assume its probably just a gland swollen, but why does the doctor have concerns about it..>>Any one ever had this happen to them or someone you know.

That's odd that the swelling goes down during the day.
It could be a swollen gland, a stone in a salivary duct or a cyst.
I would do what the doctor says because he would know better than anyone on here.

Other people can give you similar things that has happened but every body is different and without knowing exactly what it is, they can't determine if it's the same as they had or not.

Sounds like a swollen gland. The doctor is probably just being extra careful.
