should he go get checked out at a regular doctor or an optometrist (eye doctor)? I ask because when I use to get headaches alot ( which I normally didn't) I went to the optometrist I was told that I needed eyewear. He doesn't have health coverage right now so I don't want him to waste money paying full cost for both

The eye doctor is a good place to start. Many will give him a free vision screening. Or you can go to the Wal-Mart Vision Center for a free screening.

If his eyes are ok, he needs to start writing down what he eats as well as what time he gets headaches. They could be caused by a chemical in food, like dyes or artificial sweetners.

Or, they could be allergy-related. Or, he could be spending too much time in front of TV's and computers.

Does he get the headaches after reading or being on the computer? These could be signs of the headache associated with vision problems. I would suggest starting with an optometrist, this is a common complaint optometrists get and they can help rule out an optical problem. If not, he will likely be referred to his primary care physician. On the other side, if he goes to his PCP, he will most likely either have other (expensive) tests run or referred to an eye doctor.

an optometrist is a better choice i had the same problem after a head injury. the doctor didnt even suggest an optometrist and it was a year of constant headaches until anyone did. once i got glasses i was fine within a couple months.

wow, that is so hard to judge!
If you have a clinic in your area tell him to go there and see a doctor. Most clinics work on a sliding pay scale .
Headaches can be caused by a number of things.
Allergies
teeth
eye problems
neurological problems
stress related
medication

just to name a few

At times they can be warning signs for a more serious condition as well.

Spend the money ......see a doctor!

I think there is this "headache" thing going around. I am not sure if it's the weather or what but I have been having the worst headache for about a week now. And I also met two other persons who are.

In response to your question, I think you should have him see are regular doctor and if needs be then he'll do the referral to the eye specialist.

Even though he doesn't have health coverage his health and well-being is very important. It couldn't hurt to go see a doctor and get a general checkup....

It wouldn't be too expensive (out of pocket) and it may give you some important insight to his health. Not to mention "peace of mind" for you.
