Cats usually go into heat each spring and each fall. Most cats don't go into heat for the first time before 5 1/2 to 6 months of age, but it can be later if it is not the right time of the year. Cats are induced ovulators, so they will go in and out of heat many times in each heat season if they do not get bred. So if your cat is 6 months old when the spring heat season begins they can get pregnant right away if they get out.

Kittens can come into season at 4 months. We have had 6 month old kittens brought into the shelter at the point of giving birth.
Most vets (internationally) are now agreeing to early desexing - at 8 weeks of age so long as they are over 800 gms.
If you're asking because you have a kitten, please have her desexed as soon as possible, even if she is in season.

Cats can have three heats in a season -
October to April in southern hemisphere and April to October northern hemisphere. (Roughly speaking)

They can start to go into heat as young as 4 months. But you wouldn't want her to get pregnant before 12 months

At the shelter, we've seen kittens in heat at 5 months and we had one pregnant at 6 mo. Most vets will now spay at 4mo and many shelters and low-cost clinics will do it around 12 weeks or as soon as the kitten is 2 or 3 lbs (most shelters say 2lbs, most clinics say 3).

Yep, around 4 months. That's generally when vets like to get them fixed, between 4 and 6 months. The older the cat is when it's fixed, the harder it is on them, I'm not quite sure why. If you're looking to get her fixed, earlier is best. =)
