Also, can cats have asthma?

I am a veterinarian and in my recent studies i have just figured out that, yes it is completely normal. I'm sure your cat just wants attention, my cat does it all the time. Also cats can have asthma, my best friend's cat has it, and the poor thing can't even walk around the house once before it has troubles.

No, panting is not normal and yes, they can have asthma. Cats DO pant, but only when they are highly stressed or excessively hot. If a cat is panting absent these causes, it's most likely ill (asthma or ???). My friend has a cat with asthma. She is too hard to use a nebulizer on, so she gets a shot every few months. Talk to your vet and see what your options are.

For the majority of cats, it is decidedly abnormal to pant and is an indication of serious breathing difficulties or pain. And, yes, cats do get asthma. The most common manifestation of asthma in cats is coughing, and if untreated can progress to severe breathing trouble. Is this panting an occasional, passing thing, for example, only after hard exercise? How does her breathing look at rest? Is she breathing from the belly instead of the chest? I would recommend talking to your vet about this. If your cat is having labored breathing now, you should contact an emergency clinic.

I'm not sure about the asthma, but yes cats can pant like dogs. It was a hot summer day, and I was playing with my cat with a laser pointer, and when she was tuckered out she sat down and panted. I have a picture for proof if you wanted to see.

It's not something they should do everyday. My cats pant a lot when it's hot and they are over heated. If your cat is panting a lot (almost everyday), you should take him to the vet.
Yes, cats can get asthma.

They do pant like dogs but unlike dogs where its general perfectly fine with cats it means they are getting too hot and they need to get cooled down pretty quick..it's not good for them.

As for asthma I believe they can but you should check with a vet about that.

If your cat is panting with his/her mouth open, you definately want to take her to a vet or go to a vet website. You can go to places like Petco and get lots of info, some from the employees, but even more from the printouts you can buy there.

Cats don't normally do this. I've seen some do that when they had like a hairball or something else blocking their airway, but normally they'll vomit--ironically almost every time in the middle of the night--and that'll clear their airway. You're probably best off consulting a vet.

if your cat is panting it is either way too hot to the point of heat stroke or it is severely stressed out. or it has come across poison. yes cats can have asthma. signs to watch for are drooling, loss of balance, vomiting, diarrhea, 3rd eyelid is up . if any of these happen call your vet asap, or poison control.

I strongly suggest you purchase a good cat book such as " The Little Guides :Cats" is gives you comple info on Breeds, pet care, Grooming, health care at home, ect..

good luck with your cat.

Well, either the kitty is hot (in which case you could rub him/her down with some cool water and use your fingers to massage it into the skin), has just smelled something really stinky to him/her or smelled a female in heat somewhere, or has allergies and thus a stuffy nose. As far as I know, I've never seen/heard of a cat with astma, but I had a cat with a heart murmur, so I suppose it's not impossible.
