We've recently bought the Samsung 46" 1080p and are having problems. The problem is that sometimes we cannot shut-off the T.V. nor can we change the channel or volume, or access anything by the remote, even when pressing the buttons on the T.V. In order to shut-off the T.V. we have to unplug it sometimes and when replugged, it corrects the problem. At other times the T.V. works without problems. We have been through 2 of the same type brands on warranty, thinking that it was a faulty television. Currently we have Direct T.V. with the Tivo. A week after the Tivo was installed, our 22 year old T.V. died!!! Is this a coincidence or is there a correlation? If anyone has any suggestions or comments please feel free to let us know. We're not sure with whom to take up these problems.

We have the Samsung 40 inch Hi def and it works perfectly for months. If you are not using a surge protector you should. Power surges and brownouts kill electronics fast and most areas are prone to them. Some protectors guarantee replacement of the set if they fail.

A 22 year old set is way past it's useful time anyway.

Eh, I've heard stories of this happening with a few TV's, not just with Samsung. Mitsubishi, Runco, Marantz and even, Pioneer have all been culprits.

It is rare and seems unsual, but it depends on from where you purchase your electronics. I've peronally only seen a Samsung Plasma lose it's button control, and we had it replaced (It was a faulty shipment). But more often than not, this kind of inconvenience happens from wholesale retailers such as BJ's, Costco, and even Wal-Mart.

You just have to be careful. Some of these places like to buy up all residiual stock from manufacturers after they have discontinued a particular model. In turn, these wholesalers sell them at a pretty cheap price. Or sometimes they sell refurbished products which can be very troublesome.

If you bought your TV from a REPUTABLE retailer such as Best Buy or Circuit City, try returning it at a different location. Different locations recieve replenishment product at different times, therefore shuffling up bad batches of TV's.

If you think that is too much of a hassle or if you're out of return policy, Samsung has great customer service, and would try to troubleshoot over the phone. However, this is more of a hardware issue, so if you're still under warranty, they could probably send a technician out (or give you a referred third-party repair/ service center) where they could check out the problem and update the firmware (if needed) or fix the glitch.

I hope this helps!

Samsung is a pretty bad company, and sells cheap electronics also. Not a very good reliable brand.

Take it back and buy a Sony SXRD, Toshiba DLP, Mitsubishi , Pioneer Elite.

Do your have any of the new compact fluorescent bulbs ( some of them are shaped like a corkscrew)? I understand some compact fluorescent bulbs can interfere with remotes.
