Hello, I am curious if anyone knows about cats And how long the labor could last. Last night My cat who is 2 years old, went into labor, she had one kitten who was not in a sac, And not alive. We called the vet and they said to rub it and try to stimulate it. We did and sadly it didnt help. Since then she has been fine, No more signs of labor, shes just being her normal self. I am wondering if there is a chance she could still have more kittens in there, It has been atleast 12 hours since she gave birth to the 1st one. Does anyone know if the labor could have just stopped or if It lasts this long? Thanx for all your help.

Wow-I'm not sure my answer will help, given that you've already received so many, but I would think it may be possible that that kitten slipped out of the sac and was forced to come out before the rest. I'd definately call the vet to ask, and if she's still real pregnant looking, you can pretty much bet it's not over. But I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. I hope the rest of the litter comes through ok so that your cat can sort of be guided toward being the mother cat and not be too distracted by the death of the first of the litter.
Good luck and God bless. Just give her her privacy...that's one thing. They'll usually choose the location when they're ready, somewhere they feel comfortable. DON"T move her after she's made her choice. It might help to have old sweatshirts around her area and a dish of water and a little food. Other than that all you can do is let nature take it's course and try to disturb her as little as possible. She should know what to do once--and if--the rest come out. Keep your distance for at least about a day, after checking on them/her. She'll be very protective!

She's probably done, given the length of time since she birthed the kitten. However, considering that it was a still birth (I'm soooo sorry!!!), you should probably take her to the vet to be sure that there aren't any more. Without knowing why the kitten was still born, she could have a lot more going on then meets the eye. The vet will check if she has more and probably give her a shot of Pitocin -- helps her pass the afterbirth and any other kitties.
Again, I'm so sorry about the kitty. Hope everything works out OK for the mother cat.

The labor shouldn't seize like that. She should have her kittens within a few hours apart. Not 12. It sounds like this is her first litter. A lot of cats have very few kittens their first time and their survival rate is pretty low. You should be able to tell if there are any more babies by feeling her abdomen. If you feel any take her to the vet. But, if you don't feel anything and she is acting normal and not in any pain she is more than likely fine. I wish you better luck next time.

I'm sorry to hear that her kitten couldn't be revived - that's sad. It could be that she only had one, but highly unlikely...most cats will have at least two. Take her to the vet and have her examined, there may be another dead kitten in there, if it's left in there to rot it could be fatal to your precious pet.
12 hours isn't unheard of between births, though it is rare...my dog had half her litter one day and the other half the next day and they were all born healthy and "mom" didn't seem to mind the extra wait. But take her to the vet just to be safe.

i am really sorry for your loss, was it her first litter? try feeling her belly to see if u can feel any more in there but do it carefully, also when my cat had her 2nd litter she had a still borne one in the early hours of the morning and it wasnt untill lunch time the next day that she had and more the others did survive, make sure your cat gets plenty of rest and food and water and is some where quiet for her to relax , but still be avalibale to give her comfort if she needs it, and to keep an eye on her cats can sneek off some where to have more kittens as i found out.
i hope this helps and i hope that your cat is ok.

Cats can very commonly have one or two kittens and then a couple days later have more. More than likely she had that kitten too soon and thats why it died, and if there are more they'll be ok. If shes still got extra weight on then she probably will have more but if she looks normal again then she might not.

I had a cat that only had one kitten, with 2 different litters. I doubt the cat will have anymore. Or she could be having a problem, you can feel her belly and you can usually tell if there are anymore, by feeling for movements, and lumps(the kittens)

You should try to get her for check up asap. The vet will be able to tell if she still has babies in her. Usually a healthy cat will have more then one kitten.
