I have limited money to bring my poor cat into the vet. She has an eye injury (some discoloration, but I wouldn't know how severe that would be) and I phoned the emergency vet, and they said that it would cost $300-500! I can only afford $150 max. What are my options? I don't want to lose my beloved cat, but I'm a student now, and have no way of paying that. I have no idea on what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Dear Madame,

Most people find my replies offensive and disheartening. Fortunately for you, I have a soft spot for cats.

My advice is to take the cat to the vet...they can't really give you a price quote until they've seen what the problem is. Discoloration in the eye can be many different things...the most common being pet glaucoma. If you love your cat, I suggest going to get a consultation, before something more serious develops and you have to put it down. Remembers, payment plans are your friends, and you'll have to decide if the cat is worth it or not.

Best of Luck,

Is there any way the vet will let you pay $150.00 up front and then set up a payment plan for the remainder? My vet is usually pretty good about doing that so you should at least call and talk to them about it. You never want to put off medical treatment but especially when dealing with an eye injury. If it gets worse she could lose her sight or if infection sets in she could lose her eye. I'm not trying to freak you out just warning you. You could also try to find out if there is a vet. school near you.....maybe they could help you out. Good luck.

An eye injury can sometimes lead to blindness so it is important to get her to the vet soon. Many vet clinics will allow you to make up a payment plan. You can pay a certain amount (eg. $150) when you go and take her to the vet and then arrange to pay a certain amount (eg. $25) every week or two. If your vet won't do that, you can take her to the ASPCA or Humane Society and ask them if there are any vets in your area that allows you to make up a payment plan.

Good luck and I hope your kitty gets better soon :-)

Dont call an emergency vet...jusa regular one. Emergency vets are sooo much more expensive and a regular family vet will probably have the same knowledge and will probably work a payment plan out with you once they see the cat.

You could call the Humaine Society and see if there is a low cost vet clinic in the area.

The vet can set you up on a payment plan, and you can just pay them out.

kinda the same thing happened to a cat we had and we gave the cat penicillin by a shot(not in the eye though, in the skin in the back of the neck, and the eye totally healed.
