There's lots of things you can try... Some of my favorites are Silent Auctions, car washes, bake sales, etc. We've also done Dating Games (like that was on TV a long time ago), Pie your Professor (if you're in a school setting), Kiss the Pig (get people to volunteer, people donate and pick a person, and the one with the most votes has to kiss the pig), a prison type thing (hold people "hostage" until they get their bail raised, which would be a certain amount of donation)... These are all really fun... If you need anymore ideas, feel free to contact me!

buy a blow up kiddie pool and get about 20 rubber duckies. On the bottom of each you draw either a heart or an x. Charge $5 for a chance to win. They select a duckie and if they get the heart, give them $10 back (double the money) or some other "Grand prize". See if you can get a few bigger prizes donated from area department stores.
If they get the x give them a consolation prize. Oriental traders has lots of small items for cheap. If you start early enough to can get some things donated too. Mcdonalds might give you a bunch of cheeseburger coupons or free sundaes. Don't be afraid to ask.
This is a fun actvitiy and you will get lots of attention at your booth. Make sure you purchase helium balloons to draw attention to yourselves.

First of all, it's the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, and it's important to keep telling people the organization. Otherwise, like one poster put it, they think RFL is an organization on its own.
If you go to www.cancer.org, and click on the Relay link, they will give you tons and tons of ideas.
Go to as many meetings as you can- that's where people share best practices.
I gave many of the Relay ideas to my friend, who runs a mission. Her favorite is having people pay $20 and their volunteers will call on Valentine day to sing a Valentine to your loved one. The first year they charged $10 and did it one week in advance and made $200. It doesn't cost anything except running off fliers.
Good luck- Relay can be a lot of fun.

I don't know if this will help, but it is an idea I would like every office to adopt:
If you want to wear Levis on Friday you must contribute a minimum of $5 to Make A Wish Foundation.
Now, if you could adopt that idea in your workplace, and have all your friends and spouses do the same, for your Charity, Relay for Life, and commit to do it for one year, you could raise a lot of money.
good luck.

Try to sell Cancer tickets as much as you could. Put an advertisement those who need exercise, to reduce weight, and cure cancer patients, feel good about helping people, put words in to their hearts. Raffle tickets, selling goodies, garage sale, Public places demonstrate skills that people draw closer. Work hard, sacrifice all the extra expences, and you got to contribute sometimes your own money out of your cash to build up events. Ask for Sponsors.
