The following passage describes the sickening practice of sex slavery. How can anyone think it is moral to sell your own daughter as a sex slave?

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)

You are imposing modern culture on ancient culture. Again, in ancient times if you were not a master you were a "slave" or "servant." This was how people were employed. This passage is saying you can’t just toss the girl on the street if you don’t want her service anymore like they do to the men when the contract is up. You also, can't sell her to an evil master outside of God's people and allow her to be treated as a prostitute. If she is married to a son of the house then the father cannot assert his authority as master any longer, she is now a member of the family and an owner of the business. In short, there is a higher standard of treatment for female servants. Can you see now how you didn't understand this passage in the least? I'm glad you asked. Hopefully you will approach this subject with a tad of humility in the future.

The Bible was written by men and edited by men. And most of the men writing the Bible (and editing the early parts -- the Old Testament) were men who were from a Semitic culture (and really a Middle Eastern culture) that was largely male dominated. Usually too, Jewish women in Bible days did not go to school and did not learn how to write.

The bible? Sexist? Shcocking!

"Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor'w wife?".. . So that means women can covet thy neighbor's husband? Ha!

I love all this defense of "traditional marriage". Does anyone understand that women were *property* back in the day? Property? That's the tradition you seek to protect from two dudes who want to live in the same house?

Jesus H. Christ!

EDIT: "God's Word is Perfect" // "ancient customs were different" // "Christians (by the very definition) follow the example of Jesus (Christ). The passage you mention is from the old testament." // "But we believe in Genesis when it came to Adam and Eve and the Flood."

When will Christians stop contradicting themselves?

Christians (by the very definition) follow the example of Jesus (Christ). The passage you mention is from the old testament.
Jesus came to teach us a new more humane way of worshipping God. I therefore as a Christian, would never sell my daughter, not even for all the tea in China.

I don't see anything in there about sex slavery. Sometimes people would have to sell their children or go into slavery themselves because of debt.

the Bible doesn't command slavery but there are guidelines for regulating it, just like for divorce & remarriage.

Life was very difficult back then. And it is still difficult in many parts of the world. Aren't you the lucky one not having to live in a hell on earth?

Well, it was a very different culture, and a very patriarchal society. One must consider that when reading the Bible.

Yeah, why aren't women allowed to have power? Do you think they are the weaker sex?
