I am not sure about Texas, but most states require kids under 18 to be in school. Just finish high school. You will regret it later if you drop out.

While a lot of the responses play the role of "good cop" I'm going to give you some other options.
I don't fully understand what this question has to do with home-schooling, but have you ever heard of American School out of Lansing, IL? Yes, you'll have to pay $40.00 a month to complete it. Anywhere from 1-4 years or just the study program, but it's an alternative to dropping out all together. Go here: www.americanschoolofcorr.com I'm a student, and love it. Good luck to you!

Compulsory school age in Texas is from 6 to 18, so you can't drop out. However, there is a provision in Texas law that says you are exempt if you're 17 and have earned an equivalency certificate or are attending a course of instruction to prepare for the equivalency exam.

Yes you can.
I would not advise this though unless you are incredibly unhappy in the shcool you are in. If you think you are old enough and mature enough to do that, then you are old and mature enough to get a job and help support yourself. When you are an adult you will probably find it incredibly hard to get back into school if you decide to go back. If you stay in the ring now, there is already a path set up for you. If you drop out, and get into the work field, you'll most likely end up in a deadend unsatisfying job, and getting back into school will be more finantially difficult and too time consuming. But to answer your question, YES it IS legal to drop out at 17. I would suggest though if you still plan on living with your parents, you talk it over with them. Let them know why, and ensure them that you WILL get a job and help out, and not just sit around the house all day. goodluck. You may also consider just stepping into a junior college. (community college) College is an entirly different experience from highschool. Alot of people find it much much more enjoyable. Goodluck

EDIT: To all the people shuning the idea of dropping out. Yes there are alot of jobs out there that you have to have a college degree to obtain. But what about all those essential jobs out there that don't require anything? Do you think the man who picks up you trash every week had to go to college? or the guy who fixed the pothole infront of your house? how about mechanics(not car mechanics but the men who fix the pumps out in the ocean that pump the oil so you can drive your car) (my dad is one of these mechanics so yes, i know they dont have to have a degree.. he dropped out of highschool at 17) None of these important people have to go to college. We need people to do these jobs. And for people who these jobs are perfect for shouldnt be pushed into waisting their time on school. once again, good luck with your decision

You are so close, don't drop out now! You should really finish highschool and consider college! College is so much different then highschool, you may find that you enjoy it even if you hate highschool. I hated highschool but I loved college! You may want to check and see if you can take college courses during highschool. You may be able to take them in place of some of your highschool courses...that way you would only spend a small amount of time in your actual highschool. Think about your future and how many jobs make you have a diploma. If you are dead set on dropping out please at least get your GED.

If you drop out of school without finishing you will regret it within a very short time. You will limit what you can do with your life after school, and although you may not know what you want now, the best thing in that state of mind is to finish whatever you are doing until you get a firmer idea of what you want.

I would suggest that you ask your teacher's to take you to a career counselor. Someone who can test you and help you to know what you might be good at.

But if you drop out now, later you will feel bad about not finishing school.

What's this got to do with homeschooling?

I found this:
http://tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/ED/content/htm/ed.002.00.000025.00.htm#25.085.00

If I've understood it correctly, you can only get drop out (but still need parents' permission) if you are enrolled in some sort of other program, like to get your GED or something else.

Is there something other than dropping out that you could look into? A different school? An online program? Something else? Is this related to some of the other questions you've asked recently? Email me if you need a person who will just listen.

Sweetheart, stay in school and graduate. Here's some interesting statistics for you to mull over. Remember, the salaries listed are WEEKLY so the difference between a drop-out and a graduate is over $9000 per year!

http://www.bls.gov/emp/emptab7.htm

Multiply these numbers by 52 to get an annual salary, then multiply that by 40 to see what the difference is over your working life. Startling!

Do not drop out. EVERY good job will want at least a high school diploma. It may seem hard and useless now but you will feel pride in the accomplishment once it's done.

maximum likely legal with parental consent, yet except chucking up the sponge is genuinely mandatory given your situations, extreme college is as basic as existence receives. The very few jobs you qualify for and not using a level are not likely to pay adequate to stay to inform the tale.
