Since you are unable to get to the vet, VERY carefully remove the nail( with sterilized tweezers) and place it in a plastic bag. This way when you can go to the vet, or if something happens you can show them exactly what caused it.
Next, take a cotton swap or cotton ball and very gentle clean the area with luke-warm water. Please do not use soap, peroxide, or any other medical supplies for humans. Cat's are very sensitive to these and it is best to not use them.
If the wound is open, or doesn't start to close up within the next day, you need to take him to the vet ASAP. If you are unable to do so, call the vet and ask for someone to pick him up or make a house call because you believe it is an emergency.
Since you have young children, try keeping him in one room like the bathroom or a bedroom so that if he has caught a disease it is not passed on to them. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly and possibly change your clothes as precautions for your little ones and you.
If all else fails, it never hurts to call and get advice from the vet.
Good Luck

If it won't come out easily with tweezers or a little squeeze then leave it for the vet in the morning. The cat will cope fine. It will most likely get infected anyhow, antiseptic or not, so a trip to the vet for a quick jab will safe the cat a swollen head and more pain. He'll be just fine overnight though.

Do not try and remove it yourself as it could cause further damage! I understand the predicament you are in but try not to panic. Firstly, you need to contact the vet by phone; most have a 24hr helpline. Follow any instructions you may receive. If they are willing to 'talk' you through the right actions to take - do it. This claw needs to come out ASAP. In the interim period, keep the surrounding area clean and try (however!) to stop your cat scratching at it. You are a mum... so I'm sure you'll cope.
All the best!!!

Take it to the vet when you can just keep the cat inside where it is safe. Letting your cat out can cause alot of vet bills and is very dangerous for your cat.

If you can not get to the vet right now, just clean the area with peroxide for now. Then when you are able to get to the vet, hopefully soon, have him neutered. Right now is the season for them to mate, so probably they had a "cat fight". If he's neutered this will keep him from doing this. Hopefully your cat has be vaccinated for different diseases, because what RM said is very true!

Get someone else to bing the cat to the vet. It needs a vet for antibiotics and vaccines against feline aids and whatever else may be transmitted through the wound.
I lost a cat due to feline aids last ear, he got it through a bite from another cat. It was a long and very tough death, and we were all gutted afterwards.
Get the cat to the vets.

Hi all i would suggeet is to pull the claw out, its probably causing more pain as it is and could get infected. So i suggest you pull it out and bath it with antiseptic, im sure if you care for your cat you can go to the shoip to get some or bathe it with salt water every day. He will be fine. My cat came back with his ear bitten and the skin was just attached. but we didnt take him to the vets as we thought it wouldnt tear we bsthed it and everything but it has spkit but her is fine. So bathe with salt water. He will have cuts all over his body as he will fight nearly everyday so dont worry too much.

try to get a neighbour to either take you to the vets or watch the kids. your cat does need to see a vet. dont try to remove it yourself the cat will be in a lot of pain and it may end up worse.
