i've played the cello since i was in fifth grade...i'm not a "pro," but here are some ideas:
* listen to jacqueline du pre and yo yo ma's recordings any chance you get--they're both amazing cellists!
* practice your left-hand bow grip wherever you are: use a pen or pencil (no lie)
* practice the bach etudes over and over!---i hated them, but they actually made me a better cellist
* think of the "flow" of the music...if you play each note individually, your sound won't be as soothing as a cello should be...
* breathe. :) remember to breathe while you play.
* have fun and good luck!!!

Spend time practicing! Listen to your teacher and follow the advice. Sing like an angel through your soul to those strings and bow. Really try to feel in your soul the meaning of the music as it was written, so research a little and see what the composer is trying to tell with his or her musical story. Perfect practice makes perfect!
