I am having a birthday party for my son at an amusement center and I was wondering how long before the actual party should I send out the invitations? I would like to know as soon as I can so I know how much this is all going to cost because I have to pay per kid, but I don't want to send out too soon or everyone will forget. Is there proper etiquette in this situation?

Most sources say 6 weeks. I guess the idea is to get the invitation to the person before they do their plans for the upcoming month. That's why the stores sell monthly planner books. LOL, merchandizers responding to a need, as usual.
I know I would appreciate 6 weeks notice, my employer does scheduling 2 weeks before the month being scheduled. It would be nice to tell her I can't work that particular date, at the time she asks. If she knows, she can schedule someone else, or find me another day to work. Waiting until the schedule is out guarantees I will not be at the party if it is on a work day.

When To Send Party Invitations

Sending the invitations a week in advance is appropriate. I do hope that everyone who receives an invitation to your son's party will respond. (Not everyone remembers to RSVP.) Since this party could get rather expensive, and you need to know in advance how many plan to attend, you may need to make a few calls several days before the event to see who is coming. Good luck.

Send them out 3 weeks in advance, with an RSVP date of one week later.

You will probably also have to call all the non-responders to find out if they're coming after the RSVP date has passed. I know you shouldn't have to, but people are rude these days and rarely RSVP when they should.

If money is that much of an issue that you have to save in advance, perhaps you should find a cheaper way to celebrate your son's birthday!

2-4 weeks would be appropriate. If your party is going to be near a particular holiday or event, you may want to send them sooner with the understanding that some folks won't be able to come.

About 2-3 weeks is best. You need to have time to plan and purchase, and the kids need time to fit it into a schedule and ask their parents. Have funn!
