My cousins, 9 and 7 years old, are coming down this summer. They are going to be here for 2 or more weeks, and from past experience I realize I need to plan activities for them WAYY in advance. Does anyone have any good ideas? The 7 year old is into Polly Pockets and similar stuff. The 9 year old acts like a 14 year old and is into that sort of stuff, but I need ideas that are suitable for her age.

If they like swimming and if you're old enough to take them swimming, then check out local swimming pools, water parks, or beaches. Amusment parks are fun, even regular playgrounds are fun, although the 9 year old might balk at that...Children's museums are fun too. Picnics, too. Bideriding along a bike path. Walking around in a forest preserve. The zoo is also fun. I know in the city where I live, there are parents magazines with all sorts of local festivals and activities for kids. Check that out for your area. You might even google it if you can't find any magazines. Something like a search on "mytown summer festivals".

How about some sort of SPORTING ARENA? Many metroplexes and mini-plexes offer arenas wherein people of all ages can play any sport imaginable; from a rough-and-tumble soccar field to a "calm" game of cards (although, I have seen a few games of bridge that had become an all-out "bloodfield.") Oh, well......
Aunt Louise will have to recoup her "pride" in next week's competition.

I dont think you need to plan anything, just involve them in your plans. Or when they get up in the morning, make breakfast together, and take them shopping with you, go out to lunch together. Get them some books, there are allot of books for kids, try to get them interested in one. Polley pocket has books. Take them to the books store, and let them pick out a book, buy some ice cream, and make a day out of it. Take them to the movie, there are so many things you can do.... Good Luck.
