"Every word of God is tested;
He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.
Do not add to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be proved a liar." (Proverbs 30:5,6)
"You shall not add to the word which I (Moses) am commanding you, not take away from it. that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I am commanding you." (Deuteronomy 4:2)
"I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book;
and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city which are written in this book."
(Revelation 22:18,19)

The Q&A Queen has the right verse...it was referring to the book of Revelation since it was written before the Bible was compiled...some people believe it should apply to the entire Bible. However. If that is the case, then we should have no other version or language of the Bible but the originals...not too many people would be able to read it.

Yes.
Revelation 22:18,19 ...
"I am bearing witness to everyone that hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll; and if anyone takes anything away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take his portion away from the trees of life and out of the holy city, things which are written about in this scroll.

Dave, I respectfully disagree. Considering that God himself said that "ALL scripture is inspired of God" what makes you think he'd be protective of the words of only one of the 66 Books. In addition, you might be technically correct that there was no bible in John's day but the writings certainly were. Jesus quoted from the Book of Isaiah and applied them to himself. When tempted by Satan he repeatedly said "it is written" and quoted from the Mosaic law, which was still applicable at the time. The Apostles also often quoted from the Hebrew scriptures to back up their teachings.

You know, there is this thing called the Internet wherein you can look up all sorts of things. You should try it some time. "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise" (KJV) is found in Luke 6:31. "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them..." (KJV) is found in Matthew 7:12. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly known as Mormonism), we always treat everyone kindly, but sometimes not everyone treasts us kindly. Not very Christlike, is it? EDIT 7:33am (Pacific Standard Time): Then I guess you're asking to give you the reminder of the said quote, huh? Glad I could help out.

Q&A Queen has the right scripture, but please keep in mind, translating the bible into the some 1,000 languages is a painstaking but very loving act on the part of the translators to deliver as accurate of a translation as possible.
That's one reason why when there is a good translation out there in your language, instead of balking and trying to find fault, why not read it and listen to what your Heavenly Father Jehovah is trying to tell you?

The Revelation quote doesn't work. It is clearly meant only to apply to the book that John (supposedly) wrote. At the time when he was writing on Patmos there was no bible, there was no sense that there would ever be a bible, there were only books that were circulating and he didn't want any editor messing with his. It's a common request by authors.

I certainly hope not, because every different version contains differences. I had a friend in school who's sister studied ancient languages so she could read the original texts instead of the translations. She was STUNNED at all the potential errors or changes she found.

I warn everyone who hears the prophetic words in this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book,
19
and if anyone takes away from the words in this prophetic book, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this book.
