That would be cool. What would you call it? A cog, cag, dat or dag? No, seriously, I don't know if that is possible, I would assume it could be done somehow.

A cat has 19 pairs of chromosomes, and a dog has 39 pair.
It is only when two species have the same number of pairs that they can produce an offspring, like a horse bred to a donkey will produce a mule. The horse and the donkey both have 32 pair.

no. they can't be bred togethor because they aren't the same species or in the same genus. Only animals of the same genus can produce offspring (infertile) and only animals of the same species can produce fertile offspring.

intresting fact: while the offspring of donkey's and horses are not fertile the offspring of dogs and wolves are. Why? because dogs are actually wolves! I'm not kidding. The scientific name for wolves are Canis Lupis. The scientific name for dogs are Canis Lupis Familiaris. Dogs are a subspecies of wolf!

They make great friends but they know that anything more than that would screw up their friendship.

Oh, it's been tried but there were never any offspring. Genes won't work together.

If such things were possible think of the little half sheep and half man out in the hills.

No, they can have sex, but nothing will happen, they are too different, it's like if a human does it with a kangaroo. Nothing will happen, right? The same with two any different animals.
