The Bible says not to speak any word with anger in your heart. I personally believe that means any word said with anger is not right, and that curse words are not necessarily any worse than saying dangit or some other replacement word. I am offended by people using God, Jesus, Jesus Christ, etc, as exclamations, though. I think that Christians should avoid cussing unless they have an oppurtunity to explain ..... I am not offended by cussing, but I stay away from it because of the reputation and the opinion of people who are not Christians. Christians are judged by their actions especially, and should be wary of that, and act in a Christian manner, so the less cussing the better. People will look at a Christian and see that they are cussing and will jump to other conclusions about the rest of their life, and wonder how that can be godly. We are to be examples to people. On the other hand, that could bring questions to Christians, from any non-Christian and that could potentially be a door opener into discussing the rest of your faith with that friend, and that could be good. It's really a matter of where your heart is when you're using any words, cursing. Curse words are essentially words that society originally marked out as bad, rough and course. That's it. now, most society seems to not care anymore, so it doesn't matter a whole lot. But that poses another question. Christians are to be set apart from the world, so shouldn't we not become identical to the behavior of the world?

Nope. I'm a cursing Humanist.
I have attempted successfully to cut down some. My parents came from the Bronx where f*** was in the alphabet. I still find I do it when I'm anxious and talking fast (not directed at anyone, more like "that cornfried chili chow dog was f***ing good!") I try never to curse at people but - aw, hell, it happens sometimes. Driving in Massachusetts is the greatest obstacle, but I act like I'm in a Special Olympics event wherein I am driving a car and I have to allow myself not to swear at people tailgating me, cutting me off, not letting me in, honking, speeding, driving in two lanes, parking in three spaces, and screaming obscenities. I imagine this all happening inside an Olympic field in miniature. I concentrate on keeping my mouth shut - the very heart of me is pushing for that gold. Yet those dumb mofo's that take six hours to make a turn - the ones you see coming from what seems to be miles away but by the time you get there they are still leaning into their eternal turn, talking on their cells, and traveling at about 3 mph on a one-line highway - they get me every time. Needless to say, I haven't won the gold.
Or the bronze.
But, heck, it's my game and I make the rules. And tonight, I'm giving me at least a platinum.

Just because you curse doesn't mean you're not a Christian. We all slip up sometimes, most Christians don't actually think it's ok to curse.

I cant find the verse right now but the new testament does say something about ( right speech --not taking part in lewd or boastful talk ) ill post it later if i find it.I personally believe cursing is socially unacceptable behavior, and try hard to keep it out of my talk but sometimes i fail badly, like the s--- word will fly out of my mouth at the worst time--(driving my pastors wife somewhere and i drove past my exit) that was embarressing! As far as christianity goes we,re supposed to be above reproach, because the world is watching us,we,re supposed to portray Jesus to the world. If I talk like the world will they recognize God in me? i think it,s a common sense thing.

My neighbor is a Christian and she PMS's on the kids in the neighborhood all the time.
She's hardly said a sentence that DIDN'T have a curse word in it...

I don't see where cursing is forbidden in the Bible. Swearing an oath refers to making a promise. Words are like your clothes. Sometimes you dress up and sometimes you dress down. I try not to offend anyone with my speech.

I think cursing has it's place. If you're cursing like a sailor because you're really angry, or just because you think it's "cool", then that's bad.
But if you really think a curse word is important to use in your sentence than that's fine.
It's all about your heart.
And about what you feel God has called you to do.

I usually only curse when I'm around others who do it a lot.
Or when I'm by myself and I bump my head or something.
