What is the best way to make my itunes music ( file type m4p) playable in windows media? Should I try to convert the files to mp3's? If so what file converter that will do that? None of the ones I found will convert m4p's.

Files that you've downloaded from iTunes have been locked so that only that PC with iTunes software (or iPod) can play the music file. That's because both the iTunes program (or iPod) have been authorized and recognized by the DRM (Digital Rights Management) software to play on that computer only.

The quickest way to bypass this is to make the iTunes software convert the file(s) to a mp3 file. Select the music or musics, right click and select "Convert Selection to MP3".

Unless you still are using iTunes 5 to purchase your music you'll need to burn the protected songs to a CD then rip them back into MP3s. If you did use iTunes 5 (or below) to purchase the songs you can use JHymn to convert them to MP3s.

Note that the legality of both of the above methods is in question.
