is it the same subtance that make up the color of your hair and skin . do we have epidermal melanin in our eyes

Yup melanin is the same in the skin , hair , iris (eyes)
That's why in a condition called ALBINISM (albinos) where the persons can't synthesize melanin ... have pale white skin..blonde hair and if u look closely red eyes (this is the same for white mouse cause they are actually albino version of their darker cousins)

Also these patients with albinism are very sensitive to sunlight and stuff and hence the protective effect of melanin

You have melanin in your eyes, but you don't have skin in your eyes so it can't be epidermal.
