I have already researched the amount of work involved, but I am unsure of how much potential for money is there because of all the costs involved. I am trying to raise money for a charity.

Well it's too difficult to answer this question without knowing more details about the event and the area it's in.
What is your expected level of participation? Since you already know how much you need to put out on this event you'll need to make your ticket sales (or pledges, however you're doing it) high enough to still make a profit and this is all dependent on the number of the people you expect to participate. You might also want to contact a local branch of a charity/volunteer organization (like Red Cross) and ask them if they have any information regarding fund raising that could be of help to you.

Best wishes to you on this event.
