Hi Amy, there will be lots of kittens about in a month or two ... the 'kitten season' & you'll be spoiled for choice.
However, if you don't want to wait then site site should give you a list of all your local shelters/rescue places :
http://www.catchat.org/
You just select the area from the side bar & it will come up with loads of links.
If you're looking to buy one privately, then there are one or two advertised but even the moggie kittens are quite expensive.
There's an advert for a black & white kitten for £150 on this site:
http://www.gumtree.com/london/pet-accessories-for-sale_1018_1.html
Plus some more kittens on this site (but I'm not sure how old the ads are):
http://www.adpost.com/uk/?db=uk_pets&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=headlines&query=browse&&state=England%20>%20London
Plus you could also try Kittenlist:

Preloved:

Adtrader:

FindIt:
http://www.findit.co.uk/pets/cats/others.php
Pets4Homes:
http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/pets4homes/home.nsf/kittensforsale/
On most of the sites I think that you can also place a wanted ad free of charge.
I'd also suggest looking in your local paper & wandering around to your local newsagent, pet shops & vets to see if anyone has placed an ad in the window ... sometimes a vet will know where some are available.
Good luck

There are loads of kittens for free here in my neighborhood, but unfortunately I live in Florida and that says it all. I do want to say how nice you can give a poor creature a loving home . I also know of many adult cats who are left behind by people who go back up North in the spring after wintering down here. I hate to say it , but they just leave them behind.Guess where they end up for food every day . Right . I do all I can. This year it got out of hand .

most pet stores and animal shelters will call you when they come in, if you leave a name and number. Wait a few months and there will be tons.
Also, consider adopting an adult cat from a shelter. They can make the most loving pet, they know you saved them

Local Housing Association - they are pretty good for young people. Local Housing Authority although they will find hostels for you. You could try the Salvation Army - they are wonderful and will do what they can.
