i live in new york city and today i got a student pass to take the bus. when i put it in it said that it was not valid. i was let on the bus anyways but can anyone tell me why it didn't work??

Its New York... and you got on the bus.. It worked.
Just not like it would in the rest of the world. That's New York.

I am assuming its one of those metrocards, did you put money on the card? (add the money to the card?) in some cities
you can buy a card without any money on and you have to
add money to the card to make it work

Or you may have been taking the bus too late. there is a time limit each day.
