I am afraid that my daughter is gaining too much weight. She doesn't eat alot of junky foods but does not get much exercise. Is it wrong to ask advice on whether I should start daily or every second day exercise (walking, sledding, yoga for kids) with her? I was a big kid when I was younger too.

Not at all. The sooner you work fitness into her schedule, the more likely it will become a lifelong habit. At 4, she's old enough for swimming lessons, ballet, martial arts, gymnastics...it's a long list, just find something she likes. If you can, contact an area rec center and find out if they have "Mommy and Me" fitness classes, so you can exercise with her. If she does martial arts, work on the poses together. If she learns to swim, take her on weekends...you get the idea: if the whole family is involved, it's easier for it to become a habit. Find something you can all do together, even if it's a walk in the park every evening. It's a good time to share daily events, chat, and help the whole family get fit.

Good luck--

As a mom of a 3 year old i'll tell you that the best exercise you can give her is totake her to the park and have her play chase with you or anything that involes running. Let her loose in the back yard to play for a half an hour she'll love it and it will trim her down

You can have your daughter work out with you. When my daughter (now 20) was young (about 3-10) she would would do my Richard Simmons aerobic tapes with me. She loved them!!!

Or, just put on some music for about 15-30 minutes every day or every other day and just dance with her.

Also, there is a website (www.thespacefits.com) which makes VHS/DVD exercise tapes for children aged 3-7.

Take her outside to play in the snow, walk a dog together (if you get a dog for her now, she will grow up with it and will want to walk it)

Play ball... Get her involved in a gymboree class or something like that. young kids need to be active and involved with others for social and physical development.

Just make it fun for her.. don't make it seem like a chore or something she HAS to do because you are worried about her weight.

I also had trouble with my weight growing up.Encourage some fun games with her, like Duck-Duck-Goose or the Freeze Dance. Some other ideas is make an obstacle course through out your home with toys, blankets, and boxes.

Absolutely you can schedule active time for her if she is not getting enough on her own. Check out DVDs that have workouts specifically tailored towards kids (local library or video store should have some).

as long as she runs, plays, jumps like a normal 4 year old you have nothing to worry about at this age.

watching what they eat and excercise is all you can do. make excercise fun like putting on her favourite song and dancing like crazy going for walks or bike rides. and do it together, don't make her feel like she has a problem it will scare her for life.its not wrong to ask, its just wrong to ignore it.
