Yes. Catechesis has been quite poor for the past 40 or so years, making Catholics easy pickings for Protestants. especially fundamentalist types. I've yet to meet a Catholic-turned-evangelical who has a decent grasp of what Catholicism really teaches.

A lot of people are sick of the corruption, child abuse and hypocrisy rampant in the catholic church.
It is getting almost as bad as some of the christian sects.
