Dear Friends,

This week, Congress passed a spending bill that includes significant funding cuts for global and national military repositioning, and military training and reconstruction projects in Afghanistan and Iraq. I voted against this bill and want to share some of my concerns about it with you.

First, the bill cuts $3.1 billion for military realignments that are already taking place both nationally and globally. For example, we have 14,000 troops and their 4,000 children currently being transferred from Germany to Fort Bliss. These funding cuts put into question whether there will be enough money for these military personnel to have the training facilities they need, whether they will have the same health care access and whether there will be adequate schools to send their children.

All four members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff recently wrote a letter to Members of Congress saying "disruptions in resources will cause delays and desynchronize these moves. This, in turn, can disrupt our force deployment schedules, which ultimately degrades readiness while increasing the burden on service members and their families."

In addition to these cuts to the military realignment plan, the spending bill cuts funding in half for Afghanistan where Coalition forces are still trying to quell insurgent Taliban fighters and ramp up construction of roads, power and rural reconstruction. It also only includes $40 million for Iraq reconstruction compared to the President's budget request of $709 million.

The Democratic Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, who decided to take out this money, promises the money will be there later. However, I don't think a wink and a nod is good enough for our troops and their families.

I will be working to make sure these funds are reinstated quickly, and will keep you informed on developments regarding this issue.

Sincerely,

Kay Granger

Please, understand that we all support our troops! I'm so tired of getting accused of not supporting our troops (I am one) when I and many others simply do not support this war!!! There is a huge difference! We are spending so much money that was brought about on lies and self-appreciating agendas that we seem to have lost sight on what is needed here, at home! This whole thing makes me sick! Please, stop accusing people of not supporting the troops; that could not be further from the truth!

this question is soooo drained and flatly unfaithful. For the 11th-gazillion-time; in case you disagree with the conflict (and that should be 70% individuals) it does not mean you do not help the troops. via that rational; in case you help the conflict then you absolutely ought to help killing people. Is that authentic? NO. So knock it off with the not helping the troops crap. I appreciate, recognize and am forever grateful to the noble adult adult males and women who positioned their lives on the line. a lot so as that i'm prepared to speak up and rigidity the authorities to get them out of the insane bloody quagmire George Bush led them into. helping the troops skill worrying adequate to convey them residing house, not leaving them over there in a unjustified conflict to die.

They only say that because they think that gives them credibility when it comes to bashing the President. They need the money to fund their entitlement programs and buy the votes of illegal aliens who are overwhelmingly democrates by paying them benefits after they slip across the border. Why not? Border patrolmen go to jail after poping drug dealers and guardmen run away because they are outgunned by the smugglers and can't fire a shot even if they wanted to. Hells bells, hire my kids to just stand there and watch these yahoos run back and forth across the border. They can use the money. Oh...if you believe the dems with put it back in the fund, I have some desert property that i will make you a sweet deal for.

They've been told over and over that their only power to stop the war is to stop the funding. They've said they don't want to stop the funding -- but they want to stop the war more. Sounds like a rock and a hard place.

And by the way, stopping the war is DEFINITELY supporting our troops and their families. We don't want to see more die when there's no clear plan on the table.

They do not support us.

They claim to support the troops but in reality they only support any accusation made against the troops.

Not one bit. They hate the troops. They are using them for political purposes only. It's sick, disgusting and pathetic. It just goes to show you how low a lib will sink to grab power. The Democrats are deeply invested in the defeat of the US because it will embarrass George Bush. Isn't it sick that they will not just go ahead and defund the war as opposed to saying they "support the troops" and continue to undermine their effort? It's sick, sick, sick. It's what liberals do...

I don't think so. Thank you for the information. Keep fighting to help our troops do their job and help their families survive.

No - I don't think that they support the troops and they plan to make them fail so that they can say that Bush is a failure - they don't make decisions based on what's the right thing - the make their decisions based on how to get the Republicans to look bad.

Of course they don't.
They will say anything to get into the White House, then they can go back to the original (none) plan
