You have to get a special high definition cable box provided by your cable company. In addition, you have to at least use component cables, but for true hd you need an hdmi cable. If you need to buy an hdmi cable, get a cheaper one. (some cost up to 150 dollars but a 40 dollar one is just as good) because it's a digital signal. You can't get a better digital signal through better digital cables-- you either get a signal or you don't.

You need a HD cable box and subscribe to HD channels. If your TV has a built-in tuner then you can buy a HD-antenna and receive local HD channels.

As Erin M said, you need an HD cable box and at least component cables (red, green, blue wires), and can use HDMI if your TV and cable box support it. However, you do not need HDMI to get "true" high def. Component cables deliver all HD formats - 720p, 1080i, 1080p, etc. just fine.

Plug your rabbit ears through a 300 ohm to 75 ohm adapter into your HD RF input. Or, call your cable company and sign up for HD content.
