I agree with you. Because ive seen a mother pressing her daughter to have sex in exchange for drugs, and when the daughter asked "why" the mothers response was "because blood is thicker than water"

Blood definitely has more stuff in it than water does, and it has clotting agents in it, which make it thicker, and eventually they harden.
Blood definitely has more impact than water does, because if you see water, then you usually don't care, however if you just saw a blood fountain, or it started raining blood, you'd think the world was coming to an end.
Family ties are also generally closer than casual relationships because of the "blood", things you've been through, and feelings toward them.
In essence, I disagree with you.

It's not nonsense. it makes a lot of sense. You can go through many friends, boyfriends, and girlfriends, but you'll always have your family. Of course there are exceptions to that where a family isn't supportive like they should be, but for the most part they are always there when you need them. You don't lose a family member the same way you do a boyfriend/girlfriend or a good friend.

I do not think it is nonsense, I feel that your family should almost always come before your friends. The relationship I am in right now is with an older man and he has adult children, I will give up spending time with him so he can spend time with his kids or other family members.

I disagree, my family is most important to me so "blood is thicker than water" meaning blood kin is more important than friends. Family is more important than friends. Family will be there for you when friends are long gone.

i hate that expression!!! my friend and i r always trying to do things together like go 2 football game or sumthing like that but her cuz trace always has to b with her and her another cuz jen (trace's sis) always says that my friend should b with trace instead of me that my friend should blow me off & go with trace. then she always has to use that expression "blood is thicker than water" yes family is important but sumtimes u need 2 get away from family & just spend time with your friends.

I disagree with you. I believe it totally. It means that family is more important than friends. Your family stays with you forever; through good and bad. Friends can come and go. Your longest relationships are generally with family.

Why is it nonsense?
If you take the meaning behind the expression, then it's totally valid.

family has been there since day 1, since your first breath. everyone else, they are just the people who come and go. family will be there no matter what and you are as much a part of them as they are a part of you.
