well, it's sort of a plastic, and when plastic is microwaved it gives off cancer causing diodes, or something like that. anyway, i like to play safe, i only microwave in glass, but once in a while won't hurt you. you do also have to consider that styrofoam and plastic have fairly low melting points, so they can melt in the microwave, (i've seen it happen) it's pretty gross, and you wouldn't want to eat it. still, i wouldn't freak out if you only do it once in a while. just like getting 1 sunburn is not necessarily going to give you skin cancer.

It's not great... but it depends. why is it bad? b/c it's like a plastic and when plastic melts it gives off carcinogens....
Are you cooking a whole meal on high heat? I don't like to do that b/c odds are the sytro melts... but if you have a styro coffee cup and are nuking it for a few seconds to heat water... not a big deal.
Styro foam doesn't take intense heat well and has a low melting point. Switch it to another plastic dish, or better yet, use a glass or Pyrex material!

Once in a great while won't hurt you. If you did it everyday the wax coating in the styrofoam could melt into the food and coat your stomach and intestines and cause your body to become malnourished because the nutrients would not be able to be absorbed into your system. This is especially dangerous for the Ramen soup cups.

I really don't know the answer to this. Run a search for "microwaved styrofoam" and see what comes up.

No single exposure to any carcinogen will cause cancer, even if there were any proof this causes cancer, a thing there is not.
