usually when prices jump like that, it means there was a shortage. maybe less eggs were laid, or something happened to a lot of them.
when the western part of the US got that overnight frost it killed a lot of orange crops, which caused orange and orange juice prices to go up a lot. And when there was a problem with coffee crops, those prices went up.
i cant say the exact reason that egg prices went up, but it means there are less eggs than usual, for some reason!

Well basically the reason most items isnt because they are getting more expensive, it's the fact that the US dollar is probably losing its value. This can be one reason but is certainly not the exact answer. Another reason might be that farmers have had to pay more for the feed for the chickens which causes them to sell the eggs to warehouses for more $ which cause them to sell to groceries for more $ which finally causes the grocery stores to sell the egss from more money. Eggs were usually around 80-90 cents a dozen, now they reach about 1.00-1.20 per dozen. Now the same proportion goes to the larger and jumbo eggs.

We have heard on the news that tight living conditions for chickens had to change and because the chickens need more room, bigger chicken houses have to be built. So now the luxurious life of the chicken will demand a higher price.

Don't know just blame it the smokers. They get blamed for everything else.
Seriously it is due to the cost of feed, transportation, and labor.
But mostly labor since the chicken houses are having to hire documented workers and therefore has to pay them more than illegal undocumented immigrants.
