My wife once had an inflamed mammary gland which caused pain.
A trauma to the breast could, obviously cause pain after wards. Could you have hurt yourself without realizing? Perhaps by sleeping in an awkward position or carrying a heavy bag with the strap accross your breast.
Other more serious conditions such as a cist or cancer do not normally cause pain. I suspect it could be an inflamed gland, which may still require and will certainly benefit from medication such as anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics.
Although I can understand you may feel shy to discuss your symptoms with a doctor, I recommend you see one.

Are you due for your period? I sometimes get a pain under my left breast about a week before I am due - I've had it for years and don't worry about it now - my friend get's it too. Obviously, if there are other symptons like shortness of breath or, the pain doesn't go away, pop to the Docs.

I get that too just before my period. As long as you have inspected your breasts and there are no lumps or other abnormalities I would just put it down to hormones.
