You're right, "Jewish rabbi" is redundant. I think that's what linguists call a semantic pleonasm.

The word Rabbi is Hebrew for teacher, therefore ...yes there are Christian Rabbis.

Good point. I think it's a habit like people who say, "Me, personally, myself" or "continue on". The word on is redundant.

Different religions have different names for this. Preacher, Reverend, Father, Pastor, etc. I do believe that they all mean teacher or feeder.
